Dog Tested & Pet Parent Approved

It's time for hats, coats, gloves, & mittens!  It's also time for Bum Warmers.
Yes, BUM WARMERS

This past weekend I made two human-sized bum warmers. These are made from insulated batting that reflect heat or cold back to its source. I tucked the batting between fleece for that extra cozy feel. My smallest dog claimed the first mat I made and refused to move for hours.  Nine pounds can become 90 pounds when they don't want to budge! She slept the entire night away. When I felt her the next morning, her side against the mat was super comfy warm!

My brain started thinking of the possibilities for these easy to store self-warming mats. Here's the short list.

Uses for humans: Seats in stadiums, cars, trains, subways, parks, horse-drawn carriage/sleigh rides, office chairs, etc. I used mine over my lap on the drive home and it worked great!

Uses for your pets: Crate bed topper, fur-avorate place on your furniture to sleep, pet car seats and strollers, pet carriers and beds, and warm travel mats for overnight visits! What about your pet with arthritis pain that warmth seems to help?

I could make 100 of these in BLAH colors and your bum or your pet's bum could be warmed in the same BLAH color as everyone else, but I don't do box store work. I also charge reasonably for custom work. You choose the color scheme and then we discuss your personalized ideas. All you have to do is email me at K9Tailor@yahoo.com and we can get started and keep you and your pets extra warm!

Here are the two I have made for myself and my pets. I added a handle to make it easier to carry along. You can fold or roll them away with no problem.

For adult and children's hats visit http://www.k9tailor.com/   We use fun dog-themed patterns because we know you love your pets!

Happy Holidays! Already?

My mother has always said that as we grow older, time moves faster. In my younger years I would nod as if I understood, but I truly didn't. I recently had another birthday (we won't say which one). I understand what she means now.  It isn't even the end of October, and already I can see Thanksgiving and Christmas just around the bend.  The strange part is, I'm pretty sure I just mailed several summertime dresses to customers last week.  Wasn't it last week?

When we gather with our family and friends during the holidays, the pictures we take now are nearly continuous!  With the ease of 'smart' phones (smarter than most of us care to admit) photos and videos are done with the flick of a button. Next comes the ease of uploading memories to our friends and family around the globe.  In a matter of seconds, we share our most memorable holiday moments.  I think it's great!  Family far and wide are now connected.  Family, including our pets.

How many times have we looked back at old holiday photos to catch only a glimpse of our friend Fido sneaking his way into the shot?  You know the pictures I mean. The photos of you in your best dress or little bow tie standing next to your siblings or parents. As you scan the photo, you notice Fido has stuck his head in the lower left corner of the picture!  That's when we shout with glee that our friend wanted to be part of the picture, too. Good ol' Fido.  He was always there to keep us safe, listen to our fears, roll in the grass with us, and keep our secrets. They are part of our family history and only wanted to be remembered as such.

This year, as we prepare for the holidays let's be sure to include our pets in the photos, videos, etc.  Make it extra special for them and have a fancy vest, dress, scarf, or coat for them to wear. I plan on posting ready-made vests for both small and large pets for the season on my Facebook page, and I hope you will add these for your fur-covered family members.  The vest pictured below is modeled on K9Tailor Facebook page by the wonderful dog, Bocker Labradoodle.

In five or even ten years, when you look back at the precious photos of your family and see Fido and Frisky in their holiday best (courtesy K9Tailor), the memory will bring a smile to your heart.

Told you so!

There are some things all dog owners share.   The commonality of sheets, blankets, slipcovers on our furniture. May have hooks by the back door that hold leashes.  There are the water absorbing mats beneath the water bowl. Scented (as though it matters) poo pick up bags in the house as well as the car console.  This time of year, it may be what costume to choose for our dog.

When I considered which Halloween costumes for my dogs, I almost took the easy way out and made three big box store purchases.  Mass produced costumes are available, but none of my dogs remind me of lobsters, medical doctors, or Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz. To me, the costume must reflect the dog's innermost being.

The dogs made the costume decision for me when I arrived home after work one evening.  Normally met with what equals humane society level barking, and an eagerness that leaves me convinced they all truly believe I had died and would never again return, I was met with complete SILENCE.  It was that deafening silence that only trouble can bring about. Preston, that champagne Havapoo was first on the scene. He never approached me, but peered around the corner from the next room. I heard the dog door flap twice, which meant Lulu and Sophie had already made the decision to abandon Preston. My two girls work together that way.

I flipped on the light switch and found tufts.   That's the best word I can think of to describe what I saw.  At first, I thought a small wild animal had exploded in the family room.  Small and medium sized tufts were scattered about the room in a truly random manner that only a maniac could have created.  Upon closer inspection, and putting a few pieces back together I realized these small woodland fuzzy pieces were actually remnants of newly purchased socks!  All six pair had been annihilated and shown no mercy.  I felt my heart drop to my stomach with a loud THUNK!

One dog door flap told me at least one of the girls was curious enough to come back inside. Maybe they heard the deafening silence and figured the coast was clear.  Either way, Sophie was the brave one to arrive first.  On the other hand, an outside conversation of , 'no you go in first...' may have taken place.  Shoot!  For all I know, the 9 pound Lulu shoved the 22 pound Sophie through the door!
However it came about, Sophie quietly approached with her head hanging down.  With no eye contact being made, she laid down on the floor and placed her head in the most guilt-ridden position possible.  With such an admission, I found there was no reason to be angry.   As far as she was concerned, she was a mighty huntress who had killed the terrifying pack of cotton and acrylic beasts left to taunt her from their mountain perch on the kitchen table.  She considers herself, Warrior Princess Sophie, Mighty Huntress and Protector of the Pack.

You see, Preston was the one who informed me there was a problem, and stayed in the house to prove his innocence.  He is my K9Cop aka the Fun Police.   He is the equivalent to Lassie informing the adults that Timmy fell in the well.  Lulu is The Instigator.  She points out in a nonchalant manner to the youngest pup interesting items throughout the house. I believe she spins stories for Sophie much like the oldest sibling would to their youngest sibling (MJ, you know who you are) waiting to watch the seed they've planted blossom to it's full potential of trouble.

So here are their costumes and one follow up photo from today.  When choosing costumes, make them personal.  We dreamed of dressing up like our favorite fairy tale character, or tv show hero.  Why not give our dogs the same consideration?   How did I do?

Sophie's tag reads "I eat stolen socks"

Parade Failure

Oh, the vision I had of walking my three dogs in our annual Oktoberfest pet parade!  We'd take first place, accept our prize humbly and pose for the award winning custom costumes I whipped up.

Reality check!  It happened as soon as they saw....the LEASH!  They knew something good was about to happen.  Maybe good isn't the right word.  Let's say something exciting was about to happen.  If you define excitement as elevated blood pressure, tangling your ankles between three leashes and being dragged down the main street of your home town, then EXCITING is what I experienced!

Once we arrived at the drizzle-covered festivities (yes, I even braved rain for this possible playful day) they walked, pulled, lunged, barked, and whined for about 30 yards from the car.  Do you know what happened next?  Yep.  We turned around and repeated the same performance right back to the car.  I was exhausted, they were like dogs on crack, and we all piled in the car and drove home.

I'm sure I will look back on this disaster some day and just laugh until I cry.  For now, as I wipe away the tears and sweat from my brow, enjoy the pictures of their costumes.

The signs they are wearing are accurate.  Don't let the white gal fool you with her innocent look.  The fun police IS as good as Lassie at telling me when 'the barn is on fire' or that 'Timmy has fallen into the well'. My merle coat girl is workin' the mug shot pose and then some.

I love them all.  Really, I do.  And if you'd care to send prizes, I would gladly and humbly accept.  : )

My pack

It occurred to me after posting the red/white/blue daisy raincoat picture that some may think that little model wearing the coat is a member of my pack. She is a doll, but is not mine. The adorable little girl is a sweet customer whose mom shared a photo of her wearing her Business Trip Coat.

Here are my 3 amigos. All three have some poodle in their family history, love in their hearts. and spunk in their souls.

Rainy Days of Autumn

This weekend is shaping up to be a rainy one here, so what better time to create raincoats? At K9Tailor we refer to these coats as business trip coats.  Why? Because your dog has to make "business trips" in the rain, so why not end up with a more dry than wet (smelly) dog? Made from eco friendly PUL fabric, our business trip coats are light in weight, breathable unlike stiff vinyl, and come in some fantastic prints!  Pics will be posted as soon as they are complete.

I have one dog (pack of 3) who refuses to get herself out the door during rain unless she has on her little coat. Big dogs can certainly have their custom coat made as well.  Just contact K9Tailor!  It sure beats you holding an umbrella for them, right?

Keep wagging and no worries!

Welcome to our blog!

Greetings from K9Tailor,

We love our dogs, want the best for our dogs, and don't really consider our dogs, well, just dogs. They are our confidants, loyal friends, family members, and warm our feet on cold nights.

K9Tailor is all about the dogs.  We create items to make their life more comfortable, classy, and colorful.  Collaboration is our main focus since we work with the pet parent when designing. We create warm coats that range from classic plaids to crazy canine prints, accessories like our slide on scARFs, and also offer pet parents a variety of hats and gloves with dog themed prints. Hey, your dog wants you to look good at the dog park, too!

Enjoy the blog which will help keep you up to date on requested creations from other pet parents as well as our upcoming projects. I have included a link to our Facebook page, website, and a picture of our newest item which is a fancy vest for any size dog!

Until next time, keep wagging and don't worry!
